Cunningham: Reform needed in higher education to help reduce tuition costs

CunninghamCommittee2015CHICAGO – In an effort to reduce administrative costs and help hold the line on college tuition growth, State Senator Bill Cunningham (D-18) has proposed a series of reforms in how higher education executives in Illinois are compensated. These reforms were sparked by a report revealing inappropriate practices, including the recent scandals at the College of DuPage.

“Institutions of higher learning in our state have been plagued by recent controversies involving mismanagement or misconduct by college presidents, which cost taxpayers and tuition-payers millions of dollars in legal fees and severance payouts," Cunningham said. "We need to reform our laws to ensure more transparency and accountability in the administration of our public colleges and universities."

State Senator Cunningham, others to host community events

CHICAGO—State Senator Bill Cunningham (D-Chicago), along with Alderman Matt O’Shea and others are holding community events in the 18th District. The first event is a Scary Skate on Saturday, October 24 from Scary Skate vert102415 2Pumpkin Patch4:30 pm until 5:50 pm at Morgan Park Sports Center, 11505 S. Western Avenue in Chicago. The second event is a Pumpkin Patch on Sunday, October 25 starting at 11 am until 3 pm at the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, 3857 W. 111th Street in Chicago.

Both events are an opportunity for families to enjoy the fall season and have fun.

CollegeSavings flyer093015CHICAGO - State Senator Bill Cunningham (D-18th), along with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission and others will host a "College Savings Assistance Night", presented by the 19th Ward Youth Foundation on Wednesday, September 30 starting at 7:00 PM at th Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences, 3857 West 111th Street in Chicago.

Attendees will learn more about what programs are available to help make college more affordable.

Cunningham, Hurley to host "Shred & Electronic Recycle Day"

Worth Shred page 001 fixedCHICAGO - State Senator Bill Cunningham (D-18th Senate) and State Representative Fran Hurley (D-35th Representative), in partnership with the Village of Worth, will hold a "Shred & Electronic Recycle Day" on Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Village of Worth Building, 7112 West 111th Street in Worth.

Residents are encouraged to bring any documents to be securely shredded, as well as any old electronics to be recycled.

Additionally, members of the Cook County Sheriff's Office will be on hand to dispose of any old prescription medicines.
