PALOS – State Senator Bill Cunningham secured more than $18,000 in grants to provide resources for local public school libraries.
“School libraries play a major role in the lives of many students,” said Cunningham, a Democrat who represents portions of Chicago and the Southwest Suburbs. “Giving these school libraries additional resources will help the next generation of students succeed.”
More than $1.3 million was awarded to 2,484 Illinois public school libraries through the Secretary of State’s School District Library Grant Program. Resources and services supported through the grant include library books, e-books, audiobooks, periodicals, multilingual materials, technology and programs.
The following school districts in the 18th District received a total of $18,950:
- Alsip-Hazelgreen-Oak Lawn District 126 - $1,255
- Atwood Heights School District 125 - $850
- Chicago Ridge School District 127.5 - $1,062
- Community High School District 218 - $4,643
- Evergreen Park Community High School District 231 - $850
- Evergreen Park Elementary School District 124 - $1,432
- North Palos School District 117 - $2,673
- Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 - $2,725
- Palos Community Consolidated School District 118 - $1,761
- Palos Heights School District 128 - $850
- Worth Elementary District 127 - $850
The grants, awarded once every fiscal year, will support school library services for over 1 million students enrolled in kindergarten through 12th grade across the state.
